If you’ve driven through Dulaney Plaza lately, you may have noticed something different under your wheels. This summer, we gave our parking lot a complete refresh: new pavement, curbs, and concrete work to match the new energy of the center.
So, why now? Simply put, it was time. For years, we patched and repaired, but those fixes only went so far. After a tough winter, with heavy snow and plows taking their toll on the lot, we knew it was the moment to make a full investment in the customer experience.
The result is more than just asphalt. The entire lot received a two-inch mill and pave, along with brand-new curbs, landscaped islands, and updated stormwater drains. The effect is immediate. Visitors say it feels like a brand-new shopping center, and one tenant even called it “a red carpet tour.”
“We had been considering this for a while,” said Lauryn Taubman Lukin, Managing Member, Taubman Properties. “But there comes a point when patching is just a temporary band-aid. We wanted to do it all at once to improve the experience for everyone who visits.”
Of course, projects like this require care. The work was scheduled for August, the quietest month at the plaza, to minimize disruption. Striping was done at night so tenants and shoppers could still move easily during the day. Thanks to the hard work of our partners, the project wrapped up in less than two weeks and even came in ahead of schedule.
This project is part of a bigger story of transformation at Dulaney Plaza. In 2023 and 2024, we invested in a full facelift that included new lighting, landscaping, fresh paint, roof shingles, updated signage, and five stunning murals, including special lighting for our bike mural. Together, these updates have given the center a modern, vibrant feel that celebrates community and creativity.
Now, with the parking lot complete, the space feels cohesive and refreshed. The first thing people notice is how crisp and clean it looks. From the ground, it is smooth and welcoming. From above, drone photos capture the striking effect of a plaza that truly shines.
And we are not stopping here. A new tenant, Infinity Wellness Collective, will open soon in the Courtyard Shops, bringing more vitality to the plaza. Plus, our annual Boo-Laney Plaza Halloween event returns in October, one of our favorite traditions for families and friends alike.
Every improvement, big or small, is about the same thing: creating a space where tenants thrive and the community feels at home. That is the vision driving us forward, and we cannot wait to share what is next.
